Dean Barber co-founded the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV with Curtis Carpenter
in 1993 and served as the unit's first commander for about two years.  He
is a resident of Birmingnam, former business editor of the Birmingham News,
and now an economic developer for World Business Alabama.
